Pundit backs Roberts to learn from Bamford

The Transfer Tavern have spoken exclusively to former Leeds United midfielder David Norris, who was at the club during the controversial ownership of Massimo Cellino, and he has backed Tyler Roberts to remain at Elland Road and learn from Patrick Bamford.

There had been reports over the weekend suggest that Roberts’ time at Leeds could be up as Newcastle United registered an interest in the 22-year old, who has been capped 13 times by Wales.

Roberts has had an up and down season as he was barely used before February which saw him handed just two league starts, but since their 4-2 defeat against Arsenal, Marcelo Bielsa has put more faith in the 22-year old having named him in the starting XI on 12 occasions.

The versatile attacker has come in for a lot of criticism because of his lack of goals and assists and Norris, who spoke exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, has urged Roberts to learn from Bamford, who has had his fair share of doubters during his career.

He said: “It’s not always been plain sailing for Bamford because he was getting so much stick at one point it was ridiculous, but now he’s a hero. So he has been through a lot as well but he’s also proven that he can score goals and do a job for Leeds.

“Bamford has worked his way up from the Championship and into Premier League so to have those type of players in and around the squad to learn stuff off as a young player, it will only help him.”

Roberts was sent home early from international duty with Wales earlier this season for breaking a curfew which threw his Leeds future up in the air, but Bielsa appears to have handed him a second chance.

The Wales international is still a young player and his versatility may endear him to Bielsa as he can play just off the striker in midfield, as a lone striker or even as a second striker alongside Bamford.

Palace handed major managerial boost

Crystal Palace have just been handed a major boost in their pursuit to find a successor to Roy Hodgson next season…

What’s the word?

The 73-year-old remains out of contract at the end of the season and his future at Selhurst Park remains shrouded in mystery.

The Eagles have been linked to many different candidates to replace him in recent weeks, one of whom is AS Roma boss Paulo Fonseca.

It has been revealed that he will leave his post at the Stadio Olimpico this summer and that he will be replaced by former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, as a result.

Last month, the Daily Mail reported that the 48-year-old was on Palace’s managerial shortlist but now the door has opened for Steve Parish to strike if he so wishes.

Parish will be delighted

This development surely comes as a boost to the southeast London outfit as it means they could secure one of their mooted targets for free, as they would no longer have to pay the Serie A club any compensation.

It is claimed by Football Insider that Sean Dyche is Palace’s top target to replace Hodgson, but unlike Fonseca, he would command a substantial fee to prise away from Burnley this summer.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-crystal-palace-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-oftus-cheek-andersen-sakho-vieira” title=”Latest Crystal Palace news, transfer rumours and more…”]

Now the Portuguese is confirmed to be leaving Roma, Parish will undoubtedly be delighted as it will make things a lot easier if he’s to choose him as his next manager at Selhurst Park.

Fonseca has a pretty good record as head coach, despite not winning anything in the Italian capital, he still managed a 52% win rate – a vast improvement to the current Eagles veteran, Hodgson, who has only won 33% of matches in charge.

He has clinched silverware with Shakhtar Donetsk, in which they recorded a famous win over Man City in the Champions League, and also once turned Pacos de Ferreira from relegation candidates to contenders for a spot in Europe.

So that should certainly fit the criteria that Palace should be looking for, given they are mid-table at best right now.

Fonseca could be an interesting candidate for the Eagles to consider and now that he’s available for free, Parish must surely be licking his lips at one of his preferred candidates becoming available as the uncertainty over Hodgson’s tenure rumbles on.

West Ham fans flock to Pereira claim

According to a report by the Express, via West Ham Central, GSB and the club have identified West Bromwich Albion ace Matheus Pereira as a possible target this summer if they don’t manage to secure Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal.

Lingard has been in sensational form for the Irons since signing on loan from Old Trafford in January, scoring nine goals and assisting three others in 13 Premier League starts (WhoScored).

This has resulted in West Ham desiring to make his move a permanent one with it said to be a major priority for the club this summer.

However, as an alternative target should they fail to make an agreement, GSB and co could move for West Brom attacker Pereira – with the Irons seemingly identifying a possible coup thanks to his side’s relegation.

By comparison, the 25-year-old has bagged 10 goals and five assists for the Baggies as a real shining light in their team.

CPFC: Fans hail Eze for off-field activity

A number of Crystal Palace fans have been sharing their love for Eberechi Eze on social media after a story emerged on Twitter regarding the 22-year-old.

Eze has been a regular under Roy Hodgson in an impressive first season in the top flight, missing just two Premier League games to date in the current campaign.

@GilesyL14 shared a post on Eze on Thursday evening, where a Facebook user claimed the attacking midfielder has been quietly helping with foodbank drop-offs.

Eze, on £30,000-a-week, has been dropping off hot meals to people in need on any Sunday he has available.

The story, which is available to view in full here, also added that Eze turned up to help out with a cracked windscreen after a ball hit his vehicle at Palace’s training ground.

Palace fans react

It didn’t take long for @GilesyL14’s Twitter post to reach a number of Palace fans, with many heaping praise on the England Under-21 international.

Liverpool fans hammer Wijnaldum

As Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-1 this afternoon at Anfield, many Reds were left unimpressed with the performance of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum – so much so that some Reds supporters called him ‘shocking’ and a ‘clown’.

Wijnaldum was started by manager Jurgen Klopp in midfield as the Reds improved upon their recently torrid record on Merseyside.

The Dutchman is out of contract at the end of the season with much being made over his future recently – and it’s safe to say Liverpool supporters weren’t exactly overjoyed with his outing this afternoon

According to SofaScore, the 30-year-old lost the ball six times and won just two out of his five ground duels in midfield before being taken off by Klopp in the second half.

He was also among the lowest rated players in the squad, with SofaScore giving him a 6.5/10 on the day.

Given these stats, it’s little wonder Reds weren’t impressed – find all of their verdicts down below, where it’s fair to say these fans won’t miss the Dutchman if he leaves the club this summer…

Leicester must avoid Henry capture

Ever since the King Power group, the owners of Leicester City, acquired a majority stake in Belgian outfit OH Leuven, a number of players have been transferred between the two clubs.

All of those switches have been the Premier League outfit sending youngsters out on loan – Kamal Sowah, Daniel Iversen, Filip Benkovic to name just a few – with no Leuven player yet to earn a transfer to the King Power Stadium.

However, French striker Thomas Henry has expressed his intentions to become the first player to tread that rarely-ventured path, saying it would be “easier” to move to England because of the relationship between Leicester and Leuven.

He is a player that Brendan Rodgers and the Foxes should avoid, though.

Despite his fantastic form for Leuven since his arrival at the club from AFC Tubize, having netted 41 goals in 71 appearances in all competitions including 20 during the current campaign, it is really the first time in Thomas’ career when he has found such lethality in front of goal.

It is also the first time in which he has managed to score goals in a top-flight European league, a prior venture in Ligue 1 with Nantes ending with just two appearances and no goals.

Whilst playing in the lower leagues is not too much of a problem, current Foxes star Jamie Vardy ironically being a prime example of that, the lack of any real finishing pedigree from Henry is concerning.

It is not as though the Frenchman is a fledgling player just harnessing his skills, either. He is 26 and so is highly unlikely to improve much more upon his current ability.

Valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt, his arrival would not be particularly costly, but Leicester should avoid taking the apparent ‘easier’ option.

Rafael Carioca torce tornozelo e preocupa

A gente joga no calor, contra o Flamengo, contra ele.

Reforço no caixa!
