Spurs fans drool over the idea of signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly aiming to swoop in for a rival Premier League star this summer, and fans at the club would absolutely love to see it happen going by their reactions on social media.

According to the Telegraph, Spurs hold major interest in Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but will wait until after the pandemic to make a final decision on whether or not to bid for him.

They claim that if the club weren’t operating under the current difficult circumstances, then a bid would undoubtedly come in for the Saints skipper.

It’s widely known that Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a ‘positional’ midfielder – aka, a new lynchpin.

The 24-year-old has made 24 appearances in the top-flight this season, averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.7 clearances, 1.5 interceptions, 1.5 shots and even 1.3 dribbles per game, via WhoScored. He appears to be a well-rounded and ideal target for the club.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Hojbjerg would also come with plenty of Premier League experience having racked up 129 appearances for the south coast outfit since joining them in the summer of 2016. His contract is due to expire next year, too.

Back in January, Sky Sports cited a fee of £35m from Italian colleague Gianluca Di Marzio following reported interest from top-flight rivals Everton.

Meio-campo: Leandro, Jamir, Beto e Sérgio Manoel

Republic of Ireland fans criticise Conor Hourihane’s performance against Denmark

Conor Hourihane featured for 68 minutes as the Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark in Monday night’s Euro 2020 qualification match.

The result means that ROI will need to negotiate the playoffs if they are to book their spot in the finals of next summer’s competition.

Hourihane has featured in five of Aston Villa’s last six Premier League matches, and it was not a surprise that he was named in his country’s first XI on Monday evening.

The 28-year-old was ultimately replaced as the home side looked for a win, though, and a number of the ROI fans have been on social media discussing his performance.

It would be fair to say that the country’s supporters were not overly impressed with what they saw from the central midfielder in the Euro 2020 qualifier.

Indeed, a selection of the Twitter reaction to Hourihane’s display – which was disappointing in the eyes of the Republic of Ireland faithful – is available to view below:

Leeds’ Ben White could be poached by a top club says Phil Hay

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Ben White has been no stranger to praise this season and the latest in a long line of people to talk him up was Phil Hay of the Athletic.

Speaking in his Q&A, he claimed the defender would have had scouts looking at him, suggesting he’s destined for bigger things in his career.

What’s been said then?

The Athletic’s Leeds United correspondent was taking part in a Q&A session, and he was asked about Ben White’s future after there was reported interest from Liverpool.

“He’ll have had scouts all over him for a while – Leeds began watching him almost two years ago. Very often you look at speculation like Liverpool and roll your eyes but in his case, I could see it being genuine. Everything about his game looks genuinely exceptional and he’s a definite Premier League player in the making.”

Unlikely to stay at Leeds

Ben White has been one of Leeds’ best players this season.

There are no two ways about it, the centre-back has emerged as a real star in the Championship as pundits have continued to lavish praise upon him.

Indeed, Hay has previously named him as Leeds’ Player of the Season up until this point, while an ex-Leeds player claimed he’s just as good as Manchester City’s John Stones.

Of course, these types of performances will have caught the eyes of some big clubs and one of Leeds’ top journalists believes that he could be poached by a top club.

Unfortunately, this update probably means that White won’t be staying at Leeds beyond this season though.

It won’t come as a surprise to many Leeds fans, but for someone as reputable as Hay to all-but confirm it will still sting.

White looks to be headed to the very top, and the journalist’s claim that he’s a Premier League player in the making is absolutely spot on.

Leeds’ clash with QPR could be won or lost depending on this key battle

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Leeds United may be in for a tough test this weekend as they face Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road.

The London club are a bit of an enigma this season, they’ve been picking up results and they currently sit just two points behind the team they’re facing on Saturday, but they’ve managed to do that while having the second-worst defence in the entire division.

Of course, that means that they’re absolutely electric going forward, and there is one key battle this weekend that may decide where the points go.

On the chalkboard

If QPR’s strengths lie in their attack, Leeds’ lie in their defence.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Whites have conceded fewer goals than any other team in the Championship, while the R’s have outscored 22 of the teams in this division.

Despite the fact that both teams’ strengths are at either end of the pitch, it’s two midfielders that enable each side to be so good at what they do.

Flair vs brute force

This is potentially a battle between the best-attacking midfielder in the division and the best defensive midfielder in the league as Eberechi Eze and Kalvin Phillips take up two of the top four spots on WhoScored’s best Championship players list.

Indeed, Eze averages a higher rating than anyone else in the league, while Phillips is the fourth-best, and whoever wins this battle may single-handedly win their team the points.

Find out what happened when a world-record-holding freestyler attempting skills with the worst pair of boots available on eBay in the video below…

The QPR man’s main talent comes with his dribbling as he averages 2.9 dribbles per game, but that may be counteracted by Phillips’ tackling ability as he averages 4.1 tackles per game

However, despite the 23-year-old’s tenacity in the tackle, the midfielder is dribbled past 1.6 times per game so Eze may get the better of him on a couple of occasions.

Phillips must also be careful when he tries to tackle the QPR ace as Eze is fouled 2.3 times per game, while the defensive midfielder usually fouls his man 1.9 times per match.

The 21-year-old is also a top passer of the ball as he averages 1.8 passes per game, but Phillips’ intercepting skills could negate that as he makes 1.4 per match.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the number 10 has netted six times already this term as he has 2.4 shots per game. Therefore, Phillips may have to work harder than usual to stop the threat that the youngster poses as he makes only 0.2 blocks per game.

Leeds fans want Kiko Casilla sacked if he’s found guilty of racism

Leeds United fans on Twitter have shown great morals over the past 24 hours as they’ve made it clear what they want to happen to Kiko Casilla if he is found guilty of racially abusing Jonathan Leko.

The goalkeeper has been charged for the incident, and with two Charlton players backing up the claim things don’t look good for the former Real Madrid man.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

If he is found guilty, supporters have made it clear that they want to distance themselves from the goalkeeper as they’ve called for him to be sacked.

You can’t help but admire the fanbase’s attitude towards racism. Casilla has been one of Leeds’ most important players this term, but they aren’t willing to back him if he is found guilty of what he is accused of.

Whether or not Casilla is found guilty or not remains to be seen but with a 12 game ban possibly awaiting the Spaniard, it doesn’t bode well.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Arsenal implementing philosophy by targeting Karamoko Dembele

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are in the race to sign Celtic youngster Karamoko Dembele but face stiff competition for his signature.

What’s the word?

Dembele, 16, has been on the scouting list of many top European clubs since the age of 13 after making his debut for the Celtic U20s, per Sky Sports.

Some of Europe’s top clubs including Juventus, Paris-Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund are all keen to swoop in and secure Dembele as their own.

However, with Arsenal’s connections with Celtic after recently securing a deal for Kieran Tierney, the Gunners are hopeful they can use their strong relationship to come to an agreement for Dembele, according to TEAMtalk.

Dutch legend Ruud Gullit described the youngster as “exceptionally good” after watching a Youtube montage of him in action, per The Independent.

After making his first-team debut for Celtic during their 2-1 win over Hearts in May, Dembele is yet to make another appearance for the Hoops as the youngster patiently awaits his next opportunity.

Youth policy prioritised

Since Unai Emery arrived at the Emirates, his immediate priority has been the promotion and progression of youth players at London Colney. This has been evident with the emergence and regular first-team appearances for Joe Willock, Rob Holding, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka in recent weeks.

Emery’s Sevilla sides of old would often form structures in the midfield that were designed to press the ball without leaving gaps and provide quicker transitions in attack, per Outside of the Boot.

Players like Saka, 18, fit the system with his high work rate and eye for goal, illustrated during both Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt and 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The manager is identifying players that he believes can work in his unique system and individuals that can come in and play the way that he wants to implement.

With Dembele’s future up in the air, Arsenal fans can feel reassured that their manager is focusing on the next five to 10 years at the club and putting the appropriate foundations in place for the team to benefit going forward. Dembele will be a difficult deal to get over the line.

However, if Arsenal want him, they will likely have to break the bank to get him. It’ll be interesting to see if they put up the funds for someone so young.

Arsenal’s predicted XI to face Bournemouth this weekend

Can Arsenal extend their unbeaten run to eight games against Bournemouth?

That will be what Unai Emery is hoping for at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

He can certainly be happy with his team’s work at the moment. The Gunners have just come off the back of a 4-0 victory against Standard Liege and should be feeling confident as they look towards the Cherries.

Watch the Flying Pig tear into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jesse Lingard following Man Utd’s limp draw with Arsenal in the video below…

Of course, there will be plenty of changes following that Europa League fixture. Here, we try and predict the former Sevilla boss’ starting XI. We reckon there might be as many as seven switches from the side in midweek.

Every time Emiliano Martinez plays, Arsenal seem to keep a clean sheet.

That was once again the case on Thursday. However, with a return to Premier League football next up, Bernd Leno will come in to take his place. One more big mistake from the Germany international though, like the one he made against Tottenham, could see the 27-year-old Argentinian play in the top flight too.

In defence, Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin should start against the Cherries.

Both played the full 90 minutes on Thursday and look close to full fitness after recovering from injuries. David Luiz should return at centre-back, whilst Rob Holding, also back after a long lay-off, should keep his place from the European game.

After playing with three central midfielders in Europe, Emery could use three again.

Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka, the new club captain, should return. Dani Ceballos may also feature following his first goal for Arsenal in midweek.

As part of a 4-3-3 formation, Nicolas Pepe and teen prodigy Bukayo Saka might start on the wings.

Both were rested against the Belgian side and will be looking to impress their manager against Eddie Howe’s team. Pepe, in particular, will be hoping to put recent criticism behind him.

Unsurprisingly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will return to the side upfront.

It was bizarre that he was brought on late against Standard Liege with the game already won but, either way, he didn’t pick up an injury.

With eight goals in nine matches so far this term, it is clear how much the Gunners rely on him.

Man United star Paul Pogba’s double standard relationship with press slammed

[ad_pod ]Paul Pogba is an easy target. We all know it. The Frenchman can’t seem to go a game in a Manchester United shirt without receiving some form of criticism from either the national press, an army of social media critics or his biggest fan Graeme Souness. Before the current season had even started, the former Liverpool manager was already laying into his foe. Start as you mean to go on and all that jazz. When the Frenchman missed a potentially decisive penalty against Wolves, it was hardly surprised then that his gang of unrelenting witch hunters were out in force. Former United captain Gary Neville called the situation “embarrassing†on Sky Sports Monday Night Football (via Standard).Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Ross Barkley missed an equally important spot-kick on Tuesday night in Chelsea’s Champions League tie against Valencia. Much like the Pogba debacle, he snatched the ball from his teammates, who in this case were Willian and Jorginho, and proceeded to balloon his opportunity against the bar. The Blues would go on to lose the game 1-0.

What is different, however, is the backlash; there’s no national media witch hunt or pitchfork-wielding protesters outside his property. Relatively speaking, Barkley has got off lightly. And this is something the pundits over at talkSPORT have noticed…
